I don't have to tell you that the Internet is a huge place with billions of
individual pages of information. Search engines provide a way for your
potential customers to find you in cyberspace. If you aren't receiving your
share of search engine traffic...who is?
Let me be the first to tell you that search
engine copywriting isn't rocket science. Those so-called search engine
optimization experts who are so tight-lipped about how search engines work
are scared that you'll find how easy it is! Don't get me wrong, search
engine optimization services are valuable for companies short on time or
those with huge operating budgets, but if you can learn how to optimize your
own website you will benefit and profit much more.
There is absolutely no reason why you can't
learn search engine copywriting and optimization...to dramatically increase
your website's targeted traffic.
Here's a few starter search engine copywriting
tips:
> Are you targeting the right
keywords? You need to choose keyword phrases that will bring TARGETED
traffic to your website. You need people who WANT to buy your product or
service.
I do use the free tools at
Google &
Overture to some good old-fashioned keyword brainstorming. But when I'm
ready to get serious about targeting the right keywords, I head on over to
WordTracker. It allows you to determine how often a keyword phrase is
entered into a search engine and helps you analyze your competition.

> Use your keywords at every step of the site building
process. Once you've targeted the right keywords, you need to make sure
they are found in your:
file names title tags description tags keyword tags - their importance is minimal though headline tags website content ALT tags, where appropriate incoming link text
